Since two years, some companies like Bic propose product that could be use by everybody. The board are easier to use and at a  price more attractive.

For the new product, the companies had decided to propose it in specialize sport shop like decathlon.

Survey report 

Executive summary 

We were contacted by Decathlon, a French distributor of sports equipment, and asked about the sailboard market. To obtain answers for Decathlon we decided to carry out a survey using the web site SurveyMonkey.com.  

Introduction 

This report about sailboards will look at:Ø Knowledge of the different brands, Ø Windsurfing practise and water sports habits, Ø Conditions of purchase and attempt of consumers. 

Findings 

Ø First  we could see that, two brands are known by a large part of the interviewees. In effect, Quiksilver is known by 94% of the respondents, the second is Bic with 50%.Ø With this survey we could see that windsurfing is a sport which is not much developed. After analyzing the survey, we could see that only 10% of the people have a sailboard. While 20% of the interviewees practise windsurfing. All the people practising windsurfing are practicing during the holidays.Ø Two types of information are important to define a new product or to introduce new product on a market. The first one is the place where people want to buy the product, in this survey, we could see that 56% of consumers prefer go to a specialist sport shop. And the second point is the price that consumer are ready to pay for a first purchase. With the answers of this survey, we saw that 48% of interviewees are agree to pay 150-200 Euros and 42% less than 150 Euros. 

Conclusion 

This survey shows that few interviewees have a sailboard. This is a good opportunity for Decathlon to launch a new brand. For the interviewees who practice windsurfing, it is a holiday habit. Not many people practice water sports and the price for a first purchase is low and it’s a condition to distribute a lot of sailboards.  

Recommendation 

After analysing of this survey, we could propose that Decathlon  present to the consumers a sailboard at a low price and which is easy to use because many interviewees don’t practise water sports. Decathlon need to use  brand of water sports to introduce this new product and launch sailboard during the summer holiday to touch the consumers who practice windsurfing only during holidays, for leisure.
